End of week one, good & bad news

So the official end of week one was Tuesday. Total weight loss my first week was 5 lbs. I am happy with that. My joy has kind of been killed. I went to the doctor Monday to have my hormone levels and thyroid checked since my hair has been thinning for years. Based on what I told the doctor he seemed to think it was a hormone issue that could be resolved with a pill. Well I got the results today. Hormones fine. No auto immune disease. No thyroid issue. BUT guess who has pre diabetes?! I DO. I am shocked because I am only 24. I know it isn't full blown diabetes but I cried. Its just scary. I know several people in my family have diabetes but this is normally something that comes a long in your 40s. A friend of mine put it into perspective and said a person can be pre diabeters for years and not know it. I am just happy I found out now. I feel like this is almost a "good" development because it will just encourage me to keep healthy eating habits. This weekend I plan on reading up anything "pre diabetes" I can find. I wonder how this is going to effect my weight watchers. I love the prepacked Smart Ones and Lean Cuisines because they are convenient for work lunches. But a lot of them have rice or potatoes... Feeling a tiny bit overwhelmed. But now I know why I always feel thirsty and why I need at least 8-9 hours of sleep now to feel "normal." Just wish I knew where to start!!

New beginning

In 2005 I weighed 137 lbs and thought I was HUGE... went on weight watchers for all of about 2 weeks, lost 10 lbs was a size 5 and completely happy. In 2006 I met my future husband and the weight gain began :(

Fast forward to 2011, I am a single mom of a beautiful baby girl named Bella. The past few months I have been starting wimpy attempts to start up weight watchers again but also gave up after a few DAYS. I decided, again, to give it another go except this time I decided to buy a scale so I could track my progress myself. As of Tuesday March 22nd (when this journey began) I was 171lbs. Now I am 5'1 and that gives me an OBESE BMI. I know I am overweight but OBESE blows my mind! So I have challenged myself to give this a real go again. This February I paid off my car, a 2003 PT Cruiser, and was happy to be done with the car payment. An extra $260 a month for me! I had a convertible Mustang back in 05 before my mother totaled it (Mustang VS Durango, we lost) and I've wanted another ever since. I was considering waiting a few months and trading in my car but the "responsible mom" in me kicked in (damn her!) and decided that the cruiser was more economical (cheaper insurance, uses less gas) and pushed it out of my brain. WELL I have challenged myself that if I lose 30 lbs I WILL trade in my car for the Mustang. They say it is easier to establish small goals so my small goal is 10 lbs at a time. I think for each 10 I will reward myself... I am thinking new purse, Coach shades, whatever... I am excited to start! Now I KNOW you are NOT suppose to weigh yourself everyday but I feel like its really kept me motivated this first week on WW when you lose the more than the average 1-2 lbs. Since Tuesday I have lost 5 lbs! So excited :) I know no one can tell but me but I feel my stomach has lost a TINY inch of the "bulge" (ugh don't you HATE that word?!)

Me and Bella joined the Y last week. I originally signed up so Bella could join gymnastics and dance classes but I thought if I am paying for a family membership I might as well get some use out of it. This week me and my sister in law Angie did Zumba and Body Design. Today I did Turbokick alone. Feel like it was a good week. I'm counting down the days til May 9th (last day of the semester) I am working full time and also going to school full time. Plus I have to raise a kid, make sure the dog gets fed and theres always the whole sleeping and eating thing that must be done everyday! Next semester I think I am going to go back to all online classes so Bella can be involved in more activities and I can work out 3-4 times a week. With spring break ending I will probably only work out 2 times a week which is still a good step up from the NEVER I was doing previously.

I am starting this blog so I can look back on my progress whenever I feel like this is too hard and to hopefully get support and read about other people's weight loss goals... I am also doing this for Bella. I was overweight as a kid and had no confidence. Eating habits start when you're young and I was never given any good habits. We ate out often and when we did eat at home it was usually fried or lots of red meat and potatoes. Fine in moderation but not all the time. I by no means expect or want my daughter to be a size zero but I would like her to have good nutrition choices ingrained in her so maintaining a healthy weight will not be as difficult.

Todays weight: 166.8 Size 13 :(
